I-35 closed for several hours after 18-wheeler collision, oil spill

AUSTIN, TX – Officials with the Austin Police Department were forced to shut down a portion of I-35 South following an 18-wheeler crash and ensuing oil spill.

According to KXAN, the collision between the semi and a van occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. just north of Slaughter Lane.

Paramedics rushed one individual to the hospital in serious condition immediately following the incident. Details regarding their identity or condition have not yet been released.

The interstate was closed for almost five hours while the accident was investigated and oil safely cleaned from the roadway. It reopened at about 4:30 a.m.

Details regarding the cause of the crash have not yet been made public.
