Impairment suspected in fatal two-vehicle collision, Houston PD says 

HOUSTON, TX – Houston Police suspect impairment was a contributing factor behind a fatal two-vehicle collision on Interstate 69 on Sunday.

Police told Click2Houston the crash occurred before 1:45 a.m. near the Chimney Rock Road exit. Police said a 20-year-old woman, who drove a gray Ford Mustang, had rear-ended an Acura parked on the shoulder.

Police said prior to the crash, the driver of the Acura lost its bumper. The driver of the Acura pulled over onto the shoulder to try and retrieve it when the rear-end crash occurred.

The Acura driver sustained a punctured lung, while their passenger died from their injuries at the scene.

EMS crews said they rushed the Acura driver to Ben Taub Hospital for treatment.

Police have not reported injuries for the Mustang driver, but said they obtained a search warrant for a blood withdrawal to help determine whether she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Police are working to determine the Acura passenger’s identity and other factors that led to the collision.

The cause of the collision continues to be under investigation.
