Man, 22, faces 12 years in prison after deadly crash that killed Fort Bend deputy

HOUSTON, TX – A 22-year-old man faces 12 years in prison in connection with a deadly crash that killed a Fort Bend County deputy in February 2026.

Officials told ABC13 that the 22-year-old man, Dennis Arguella-Acosta, accepted a plea deal and was charged with failure to stop and render aid to the deputy.

The Back Story

The crash happened before 3:40 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21. The deputy, Kenneth Lewis, was driving home on Interstate 10 after performing overtime at work and noticed a stranded driver.

Lewis exited his vehicle and walked over to provide aid when he was struck by a dark-colored sedan driven by Arguella-Acosta.

Arguella-Acosta fled the scene, and Lewis, who was wearing his uniform, was left in critical condition.

EMS rushed Lewis to the hospital, where he died two days later.

A month after the crash, Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Arguella-Acosta in connection with the collision. The Department of Homeland Security conducted the arrest after receiving an anonymous tip.

Lewis first started working for the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office in 2015 and previously worked for the Missouri City Police Department.
