Man, 76, dies following single-vehicle crash near west Houston business
HOUSTON, TX — A single-vehicle accident involving a transit van on Tuesday, November 28, in west Houston ultimately claimed the life of a 76-year-old man, according to a Houston Police Department press release.
The wreck took place at 7887 San Felipe Street, in front of Tarantino Properties, Inc. and Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation. Houston Police were dispatched to the scene some time after 5:15 p.m.
A preliminary investigation by the HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division found that Donald Callahan was driving a white Ford transit van eastbound on the road when he appeared to suffer a medical episode. He then veered out of his lane, causing the vehicle to hit the concrete curb along the roadway. The van was thrown into a grassy area before it collided with one of the building’s brick pillars.
Responding paramedics rushed Callahan to Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition. Officials confirmed that on the following Tuesday, December 5, Callahan was pronounced deceased by doctors.
