Man arrested after high-speed chase in Williamson County

AUSTIN, TX – A man was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase in Williamson County in a stolen vehicle that ended with a three-vehicle collision.

According to KXAN, the accused is 20-year-old Jermaine Jones, who allegedly stole a 2020 Toyota Corolla with passengers, including a 14-year-old girl, still inside.

Troopers located the vehicle around 6:20 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 35, headed southbound. The Toyota exited the freeway at Leander Road and then ran a traffic light at Leander and the I-35 service road. Multiple police units then followed in chase.

During the pursuit, the Toyota reached speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour and was forced to “side skid” to avoid colliding with other vehicles.

The chase ultimately ended when the Toyota collided with two cars near the Parmer Lane exit. Jones allegedly then fled across the highway on foot in an attempt to escape the scene but was apprehended by authorities.

He has been taken to Travis County Jail on charges of evading arrest with a vehicle and has been released from custody on bond.

It is unknown at this time if anyone was injured during the chase and subsequent collision.
