Man charged with DWI after pickup fatally strikes driver in Houston
HOUSTON, TX – A suspect has been arrested and charged following a fatal crash at 12200 Northwest Freeway (U.S. Highway 290) early Sunday morning, according to the Houston Police Department.
An investigation found that the driver of a BMW 335I was traveling westbound on the Northwest Freeway at about 3 a.m. when the vehicle became disabled and the driver pulled over to the far-right shoulder on the exit ramp near Bingle Road. The driver then got out of the vehicle to examine the car and, according to a witness, was struck by a white Chevrolet pickup truck.
The 21-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics.
About 30 minutes later, police said the driver of a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck called police to report he had been in an accident.
The driver, identified by police as 22-year-old Axel Rosales, was reported to have exhibited signs of intoxication. He was then arrested in connection with the fatal collision.
Rosales is charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to stop and render aid. Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
