Man dies after apparent contact with dump truck in SW Houston

HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A 44-year-old man died Monday afternoon after an incident involving a front-end loader garbage truck in southwest Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

A witness found the man unresponsive at 340 South Wayside Drive, in the city’s Greater East End neighborhood, at around 12:30 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates the man was driving a Texas Pride Disposal truck into the property’s parking lot and toward a number of dumpsters. About two hours later, a witness observed that the truck still had not left the lot and discovered the male driver in an area between the dumpster and a wooden fence.

Responding paramedics with the Houston Fire Department pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

The HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division continues to investigate, but officials believe the victim may have failed to set the parking brake prior to exiting the vehicle. Evidence taken from the scene suggests the truck moved and hit the driver while he was standing by the fence.
