Man dies after backing van into ditch near SE Houston residence

HOUSTON, TX — A man died following a vehicle crash outside a residence Monday, September 11, in southeast Houston’s Gulfgate/Pine Valley area, reports the Houston Police Department.

The accident occurred in the 3000 block of Golfcrest Boulevard at around 6:40 p.m.

According to a preliminary investigation by the HPDs Vehicular Crimes Division, the man had stolen a white Chevrolet Eco van from another residence earlier that day. He had driven the van into a private driveway when, after being told to leave, he reversed the vehicle into a ditch.

The male driver, who was knocked unconscious in the crash, was rushed to St. Joseph’s Medical Center by Houston Fire Department paramedics. Officials confirmed he was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

No other details have been provided, as an investigation remains in progress.
