Man dies after being clipped by pickup truck on Spindle Dr in NW Houston

HOUSTON, TX — A man was fatally hurt early last Thursday, October 5, when he was hit by part of a pickup truck while walking in northwest Houston, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident took place in the 6800 block of Spindle Drive, in the city’s Recreation Farms neighborhood, at about 8:23 p.m.

An early investigation found that a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling east on the road when the vehicle’s right side-view mirror struck the victim, who was walking west near the south edge of the roadway.

First responders rushed the male pedestrian to an area hospital, where he died from injuries suffered in the contact.

Authorities said the driver, identified as Alexis Eduardo Garcia Lopez, displayed signs of impairment at the scene and was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated.

The HCSO’s Vehicular Crimes Division is still working to determine whether the victim was walking in the roadway at the time of the crash, or whether Garcia Lopez had failed to maintain a single lane and veered off the roadway.
