HOUSTON, TX – A jury found a man guilty of intoxication manslaughter for a crash that claimed the life of a Harris County deputy constable on Texas Beltway 8 near Fondren Road on April 3, 2022, according to Click 2 Houston.
Adolfo Serrano was allegedly fleeing the scene of a wreck he had been involved in as witnesses followed his Ford F-550 and called authorities.
Constable deputy Jennifer Chavis responded to the call and parked her patrol SUV on the side of the highway, waiting for Serrano’s arrival. Serrano collided with the rear of the SUV. The SUV caught on fire.
First responders pronounced Chavis dead at the scene and transported Serrano to an area hospital.
Serrano reportedly told authorities he drank a margarita before the crash.
He will be sentenced at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. He could face anywhere between 15 years and life in prison.
