Man on scooter hit, critically hurt by DWI suspect near Energy Corridor

HOUSTON, TX — A man was hospitalized with multiple serious injuries Monday night after being hit by a vehicle while riding a scooter in northwest Houston, reports KHOU11.

Houston Police Department officials said the incident occurred on Park Row Drive, just off the Katy Freeway, near the Energy Corridor. Officers and first responders responded to the scene shortly after 9:30 p.m.

While the circumstances of the event are under investigation, a woman is believed to have been intoxicated behind the wheel. Preliminary details indicate she struck the victim on the scooter with her vehicle, which continued on before striking a tree and bursting into flames.

The victim was transported by Life Flight to an area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Authorities said he suffered a spinal injury and several broken bones in the crash.

The driver, who sustained minor injuries, was placed under custody to be investigated for Driving While Intoxicated.
