Motorcyclist dies after striking trailer on US-59 in SW Houston
HOUSTON, TX — A 23-year-old man was fatally injured last Thursday, July 27, when his motorcycle collided with a trailer on U.S. Highway 59 in southwest Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.
The accident was reported at 10000 Southwest Freeway (South US-59), in the Westwood area, at around 12:15 p.m.
Investigators with the HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division said the young man was operating a Honda motorcycle southbound on the main lanes of the freeway. Preliminary details indicate the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed and weaving between lanes of traffic when he entered a lane behind a tractor-trailer. At one point, the motorcyclist pushed heavily on his brakes just before the bike hit the back of the trailer. The impact caused the man to lost control of the motorcycle, causing both rider and bike to crash onto the ground.
Paramedics with the Houston Police Department pronounced the rider deceased at the scene.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, who was determined to be unimpaired, stayed after the crash and cooperated with officers before being released.
