Motorcyclist killed in crash with stolen excavator on TX-249

HOUSTON, TX – Police are looking for the driver who abandoned a stolen excavator after it was involved in a fatal collision on Sunday in northwest Houston.

According to abc 13 News, the accident occurred sometime before 2:33 a.m. in the area of TX-249 and West Greens Road in the Willowbrook area.

Police say that for unknown reasons, a motorcycle rear-ended a stolen backhoe excavator on the highway. The motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries. Authorities have not yet released the name of the deceased.

The driver of the backhoe fled the scene on foot after parking the machine along the highway. They did not stop to render aid or to speak with police.

Officials closed the southbound side of TX-249 for around three hours while crews worked at the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
