Officer hurt, driver flees scene in Pierce Street hit-and-run

HOUSTON, TX – A police officer sustained injuries Thursday in a hit-and-run crash in downtown Houston, reports Click 2 Houston.

The accident occurred in the afternoon along Pierce Street, which runs northwest to southeast along the Gulf Freeway in the downtown area. Officials haven’t yet provided a cross street for the crash.

The investigation indicates that the driver of a white pickup truck failed to heed a red light and collided with an unmarked police vehicle.

Medics transported a police officer to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck fled the scene on foot.

The investigation is ongoing.
