On-duty HPD officer fatally strikes female pedestrian on SW Freeway
HOUSTON,TX- An unidentified HPD officer was responding to a call when he fatally hit a woman with his vehicle on SW Freeway on Jan. 17th, ABC13 reports.
The woman that he hit was pronounced dead onsite. It was reported that she stepped off the sidewalk onto the road when she was hit at 11500 Southwest Freeway near S. Wilcrest Drive.
The call that was being responded to was not a Code 1 emergency, therefore, the officer’s vehicle was not employing lights or sirens when the woman was hit.
The victim was reported by a witness to possibly be a homeless, 40 year-old Hispanic woman.
The officer has been with the police force for two years. He is on administrative leave.
