One dead, one critically injured after Houston pickup wreck

HOUSTON, TX – A man died, and a woman suffered critical injuries on Friday in a crash on Irvington Boulevard, per the Houston Police Department.

Reports indicate that the crash happened at around 4:40 p.m. in the 6700 block of Irvington Boulevard. Police say the driver, identified as Alberto Martinez, 44, was driving a red Dodge Ram 1500 south on Irvington just before the wreck.

According to investigators, the pickup was moving fast before Martinez lost control. The truck then struck a fence and a pole. The impact threw both Martinez and his passenger, a 33-year-old woman, from the pickup.

Emergency crews took both people to a local hospital in critical condition. Doctors later declared Martinez dead.

HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division continues to investigate the fatal crash.
