Passenger dies after car hits tree in SW Houston, driver sought

HOUSTON, TX — A woman succumbed to injuries suffered in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday in southwest Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

The accident happened at 7700 Harwin Drive, just north of the Sharpstown area, at around 1:35 a.m.

Preliminary details indicate a 28-year-old man was driving a red Toyota Camry westbound when, for reasons still unclear, the vehicle ran off the roadway and collided with a tree. Authorities said the male driver then fled the scene, failing to render aid to his passenger, a 25-year-old woman who was ejected from the vehicle.

Paramedics with the Houston Fire Department rushed the woman to Ben Taub General Hospital where she died.

No other occupants or vehicles appear to have been involved.

The HPD Hit and Run Unit asks anyone with information to contact investigators at 713-247-4072. Crime Stoppers can also be reached anonymously at 713-222-TIPS.
