Passenger dies after driver crashes into pond on Canyon Lake Trace Dr in Humble
HUMBLE, TX – A passenger died when a driver crashed into a pond on the 4800 block of Canyon Lake Trace on Sunday, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Diego Garcia was driving a red 1998 Ford F150 west on CAnyon Lake Trace Dr when he strayed off the road and crashed into a pond around 1:22 p.m. The truck landed upside down with the passenger compartment submerged under water.
Bystanders stopped and manually flipped the truck right side up. The driver exited the vehicle without injuries, while the passenger, Carlos Esau Cavada, stayed inside the cab.
Deputies extricated the passenger and performed CPR on him until rescue crews arrived. They transported Esau Cavada to an area hospital, where he died around 2:12 p.m.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division is investigating the incident.
