Passenger dies after falling out of pickup truck in Houston’s Spring Branch Central area

HOUSTON, TX — A 30-year-old man died last Friday, February 2, following a motor vehicle accident on Greensward Road in northwest Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

Officers and first responders rushed to the scene in the 9300 block of the road, in the city’s Spring Branch Central neighborhood, some time after 5:10 p.m.

A preliminary investigation by the HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division indicates the victim, Omar Abu Dayyeh, was sitting in the rear seat of a red Chevrolet Silverado heading westbound on Greensward Road. At one point, for reasons still unclear, he opened the door of the moving vehicle and fell from the pickup and onto the ground.

The driver, a 38-year-old man, was said to have immediately stopped the vehicle and attended to the fallen passenger. Moments later, a witness alerted called authorities.

Paramedics with the Houston Fire Department pronounced Abu Dayyed deceased at the scene, confirmed officials.

The HPD said the driver, who stayed at the scene and cooperated with an investigation, was found not to be impaired and was released after questioning.
