Pedestrian hit, killed by tractor-trailer on Ley Rd in NE Houston

HOUSTON, TX — A 59-year-old woman died Tuesday afternoon after a pedestrian crash involving a tractor-trailer in northeast Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

The fatal incident occurred in the 7900 block of Ley Road, near Wayside Drive, in the city’s East Houston neighborhood. It was first reported at around 2:00 p.m.

Investigators with the HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division said a man was behind the wheel of a white Peterbilt tractor-trailer that was stopped at the intersection of Ley Road and North Wayside Drive. As the light turned green, the driver proceeded forward to turn left when he felt the truck shake. Authorities said he then stopped the truck and discovered the female pedestrian lying in the roadway.

Paramedics with the Houston Fire Department pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

The driver, who cooperated with responding officers, was released after questioning. Authorities said intoxication does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash.

An investigation remains ongoing. No pending charges have been reported.
