Pedestrian killed, Houston PD officer injured in I-10 crashes
HOUSTON, TX – A pedestrian was killed, and a Houston police officer was injured in a series of Interstate 10 crashes on Saturday.
The first incident happened at 11:55 p.m. on the 10100th block of Interstate 10 near Mercury Drive, Fox26Houston said.
Police said a man, who was driving a white pickup truck, ran out of gas and walked across the freeway to purchase gas. As he walked back to his vehicle, that’s when he was struck by a vehicle.
The pedestrian unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The driver who struck the pedestrian remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Following this crash, police officers shut down the interstate. One driver failed to yield and then crashed their vehicle into a marked Houston police patrol car.
The police officer sitting inside that aforementioned police car sustained unspecified injuries and was rushed to a hospital.
A full investigation into both crashes remains underway.
