Rear-end crash in west Houston sends DWI suspect, HPD officer to hospital
HOUSTON, TX — A DWI suspect crashed their vehicle into the back of an HPD officer’s patrol vehicle Tuesday morning in west Houston, sending both drivers to the hospital, according to ABC13.
The crash occurred on Westheimer Road near Wilcrest Drive, in the Briar Forest neighborhood. It was first reported at around 4:00 a.m.
Houston Police say they believe the causing driver was under the influence while driving his Toyota Tundra pickup truck, which rear-ended the officer’s patrol vehicle. The marked unit, which was stopped at a red light at the time, sustained damage to its back end. The striking vehicle was twisted and overturned to one side.
First responders had both the officer and the suspect transported to an area hospital for minor injuries.
The HPD indicated that they are working to determine whether the suspect was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
