Semi crash, watermelon spill causes backup on I-69 in Sugar Land
FORT BEND COUNTY, TX — A semi-truck wreck sent hundreds of crushed watermelons onto Interstate 69 Tuesday morning in Sugar Land, reports ABC13.
The accident happened on the northbound lanes of I-69 (Southwest Freeway) at University Boulevard, near Smart Financial Center. It was verified by Houston Transtar at 3:51 a.m.
While authorities have not released a sequence of events leading up to the crash, aerial footage captured by ABC13’s SkyEye crew shows the semi with substantial damage and the crushed fruit covering part of the median. A highway sign also appears to have been hit by the semi.
At this time, no serious injuries have been confirmed.
