Semi hits fire truck in Kingwood, injuring 4 firefighters

KINGWOOD, TX – An 18-wheeler struck a fire truck in the northeast suburbs over the Thanksgiving weekend, injuring at least three firefighters.

According to KHOU 11, the accident occurred shortly after 3:30 a.m. Sunday on the southbound side of the Eastex Freeway near Northpark Drive in Kingwood, which is around 27 miles from Houston.

Police say that Engine 104 was blocking the freeway after an earlier crash when a semi-truck failed to stop and hit the fire engine.

Medics transported four firefighters to the hospital, three of whom remained in the hospital overnight. Authorities identified them as Ben Abbott, Colbey Bailey, and Jason Thompson.

It’s unclear if the driver of the 18-wheeler was hurt in the crash.

No charges have been filed thus far.

A full investigation is underway.
