Teen and two others dead after head-on crash Wednesday night in Liberty County
DAYTON, TX – A 17-year-old boy, a 39-year-old woman, and a 44-year-old man died in a Wednesday night crash on Highway 99 in Liberty County, reports KHOU.
Texas Department of Public Safety reported that the wreck happened shortly after 9 p.m. on the Grand Parkway near Dayton. Troopers say the crash occurred between FM 1960 and U.S. 90.
Investigators said the 44-year-old man, driving a southbound Ford F-150, crossed the center line for unknown reasons. The F-150 reportedly sideswiped a northbound Ford F-250. The F-250 driver saw the truck enter the wrong lane and swerved.
Authorities said the F-250 suffered minor damage and a flat tire. The driver did not suffer serious injuries.
DPS said a Lincoln SUV was traveling northbound behind the F-250, and its driver had no time to avoid the F-150. Investigators say the F-150 struck the Lincoln on its front-left side.
The Lincoln’s driver, a 17-year-old boy from Cleveland, died at the scene. A 39-year-old woman riding with him also died at the scene.
DPS said the 44-year-old man driving the F-150 also died from the crash.
Firefighters from Liberty County and Dayton spent more than an hour freeing the victims from the vehicles. Officials reopened State Highway 99 around 1:30 a.m. Thursday after crews cleared the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
