Teen passenger dies following single-vehicle Channelview crash
CHANNELVIEW, TX – According to KHOU, a 17-year-old boy died in a wreck on I-10 eastbound near Monmouth Street Wednesday night.
A male was driving a 1999 Toyota Tacoma when he entered the Monmouth Street exit, went down an embankment, and crashed into a small body of water just before midnight.
The driver freed himself and extricated his 17-year-old male passenger from the truck. He then walked nearly a mile to a nearby gas station to call 911.
First responders pronounced the 17-year-old dead at the scene.
Authorities determined the driver was not impaired. They are looking into whether speed was a factor in the collision.
