Teen passenger killed in rollover crash during Liberty County police pursuit
LIBERTY COUNTY, TX — An 18-year-old passenger died early Sunday after a rollover crash on Interstate 69 in Cleveland, according to KHOU11.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said the fatal collision occurred on the northbound I-69 feeder road.
Preliminary details show deputies in Montgomery County had attempted to pull over a speeding SUV, but the driver refused to stop. A chase followed into Cleveland city limits, and shortly after, as the feeling driver tried to negotiate a very sharp curve, they lost control, causing the SUV to roll down an embankment.
The victim, who was ejected during the wreck, was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The driver and one other passenger tried to flee the scene on foot but were later apprehended.
At this time, DPS officials said the driver will likely be charged with “evading arrest,” with additional charges pending.
