Tesla vs Uber crash claims driver’s life in downtown Houston
HOUSTON, TX — One person died Sunday night after a crash involving a Tesla in downtown Houston’s Central Business District, according to Click2Houston.
The collision took place at the intersection of Jefferson Street and La Branch Street, prompting an emergency response some time after 11:30 p.m.
While details are limited, Houston Police said a Tesla struck the back of an Uber that was waiting at a red light. The Tesla appeared to have been traveling at a high rate of speed just prior to the wreck, but it was unclear whether it was in self-driving mode.
First responders pronounced the driver of the Tesla deceased at the scene. A passenger in the Tesla was transported to a local hospital where their condition remains undisclosed.
The driver of the Uber was traveling with at least two other people inside the rideshare at the time, but no one else was reported injured.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the rear-end accident.
