Toddler dead, elderly woman critically hurt after pedestrian crash at SW Houston crosswalk

HOUSTON, TX – A 2-year-old boy lost his life Thursday morning, December 12, as a result of a pedestrian crash in southwest Houston that left his grandmother fighting for her life, reports KHOU11.

The fatal incident took place at the intersection of West Fuqua and Bathurst Drive, in the city’s Central Southwest neighborhood.

Officials say the young child was secured in a stroller that his grandmother was pushing across an uncontrolled pedestrian crosswalk. Preliminary details show a driver was turning left from a stop sign when his vehicle struck them.

The boy died as a result of his injuries, and his grandmother was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.

While the driver did not exhibit signs of impairment, a spokesperson for Citizens for Road Safety said they should have been arrested because they did not appear to have yielded for the pedestrians.

No charges or citations have been announced at this time.
