Toddler dead in DWI crash on Interstate 45 in Conroe
CONROE, TX – A toddler died in a fatal DWI collision on Interstate 45 near FM 1488 Sunday night, according to KHOU.
A white Toyota Camry with a blown tire was on the inside shoulder of northbound Interstate 45. Donald Carson, 30, strayed onto the shoulder and hit the rear of the Camry around 8:15 p.m.
Following the collision, both cars erupted in flames. Bystanders were able to pull out a 26-year-old mother and her 5-year-old daughter from the burning Toyota. First responders pronounced a 3-year-old girl dead in the back seat.
The mother and her 5-year-old daughter were hospitalized with serious injuries and burns.
Carson was able to exit his vehicle with minor injuries.
Officers determined Carson was impaired and arrested him.
Authorities charged Carson with intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault.
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and the Conroe Police Department are investigating the incident.
