U-Haul driver fatally collides with off-duty constable riding bicycle near Katy
KATY, TX – According to KHOU, a driver struck and killed an off-duty Harris County Sheriff’s Office constable in a fatal bicycle collision near Katy Tuesday morning.
Earlie Gibbs, 63, was driving a U-Haul when he struck Manuel Edwards, 55, as Edwards was riding a bicycle north on Gaston Road near Katy Flewellen Road around 8 a.m.
First responders transported Edwards to an area hospital, where he died.
Authorities charged Gibbs with failure to stop and render aid and intoxication manslaughter.
The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
