Van crashes near Grand and Kuykendahl, killing passenger
HOUSTON, TX – One person died, and two people were injured Saturday in a fiery crash along the highway in northwest Houston.
According to abc 13 News, the accident occurred sometime before 9 a.m. on the westbound side of TX-99, or Grand Parkway, near Kuykendahl Road in the Spring Terrace area.
Police say that for unknown reasons, a driver lost control of their work van and crashed into a guardrail along the highway. The van ignited upon impact.
A witness at the scene helped to remove the driver from the van. Medics then airlifted the driver to an area hospital with critical injuries.
The bystander who assisted the driver also required hospitalization for burn injuries.
A passenger from the van succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name to the public.
Officials closed Grand Parkway westbound in the area of the collision while emergency crews worked at the scene.
A full investigation is underway.
