Woman dies after being hit by vehicle in NW Houston, teen DWI suspect charged
HOUSTON, TX — Authorities have charged a 17-year-old boy with intoxication manslaughter following a fatal pedestrian crash last Friday off Interstate 10 in northwest Houston, reports the Houston Police Department.
The incident unfolded in the 7700 block of the I-10 (Katy Freeway) service road on December 15 at around 11:25 p.m.
A preliminary investigation shows the teen was behind the wheel of a black Mercedes GLK350 and traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound. As the vehicle turned northbound onto Silber Road at the unsafe speed, it veered out from its lane and hit a curb. The Mercedes proceeded to strike a female pedestrian who was sleeping on the median, and then slam into a wall.
The teen driver attempted to flee the scene but was stopped by a number of witnesses.
The victim, a woman whose name and age remains undisclosed, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics.
Authorities say the teen driver was arrested and then charged for an investigation into intoxication manslaughter in the 182nd State District Court.
