Woman hit, killed by vehicle on North Loop East Fwy in NE Houston
HOUSTON, TX — A 38-year-old woman died early Friday following a pedestrian crash on the North Loop East Freeway in northeast Houston, according to ABC13.
The fatal incident occurred in the 4900 block of the freeway (Interstate 610), just east of Lockwood Drive, at around 1:40 a.m.
Houston Police Department officials said the woman was in the far right main lanes of the freeway when she was struck by an eastbound Honda CRV.
First responders pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
According to the victim’s family, she had consumed alcohol before the crash, and was known to frequent the area on foot, though she habitually crossed underneath the freeway at the Lockwood intersection. Authorities have not determined why she had entered the main lanes of the freeway.
The driver, a 49-year-old man, stayed after the crash and cooperated with an investigation before being released from the scene. He was not suspected of impairment.
