Woman killed, 3 children hurt in crash on Southwest Fwy near Westwood

HOUSTON, TX — A woman died early Thursday after a single-vehicle accident on the Southwest Freeway near Houston’s Westwood area, reports KHOU11.

The fatal wreck occurred on the southbound lanes (Interstate 69) near Bissonnet Street shortly before 1:30 a.m.

According to the Houston Police Department, the woman, believed to be in her early 30s, was driving when she lost control of her vehicle and caused it to strike two street signs.

The female driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected in the crash and then run over by her own vehicle. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Three children, including an infant, a toddler, and a 12-year-old, had also been traveling in the vehicle, which was not equipped with any car seats. The toddler was thrown from the car during the crash, but officials said the child’s injuries were only minor. All three children were transported to an area hospital and are expected to recover.

No further information has been released at this time.
