Wrong-way driver dies following collision on Stuebner Airline Rd
HOUSTON, TX – According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, a wrong-way driver died after colliding with another vehicle on the 14000 block of Stuebner Airline Rd on Monday.
Maria Mercedes Banuelos Vazquez was driving a tan Ford Bronco north on Suebner Airline Rd in the left turn lane at excessive speeds when she ran a red light on the wrong side of the road and hit a black Chevrolet Silverado operated by Tommy Lee Burrell around 4:02 a.m.
Rescue crews pronounced Vasquez dead at the scene and transported Burrell to an area hospital with serious injuries.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office’s Vehicular Crimes Division is investigating the incident.
