Young man dies after fiery rollover crash on I-610 in NE Houston
HOUSTON, TX — A single-vehicle rollover crash this past Saturday on Houston’s North Loop East claimed the life of a 21-year-old man, according to the Houston Police Department.
The fatal accident happened in the 3200 block of the freeway (North Interstate Highway 610), in the city’s northeast corner, at around 2:45 a.m.
An early investigation indicates the young man was operating a silver Dodge Ram pickup truck westbound at a high rate of speed. At one point, he veered out of his lane while driving into the Eastex North entrance ramp and lost control of the vehicle. The Dodge Ram then hit a sign and a guardrail along the ramp’s west side before traveling across the shoulder and hitting the guardrail and then coming to rest on its roof below the bridge.
Authorities said the driver, who was still inside the wreckage when it caught fire, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics.
No other injuries were reported, and no other individuals or vehicles appear to have been involved.
The HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division continues to investigate.
