Elderly passenger dies after multi-car crash on I-45 in SE Houston
HOUSTON, TX — A 95-year-old woman has died following a multi-vehicle crash last Friday on South Interstate Highway 45 in southeast Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.
The collision occurred on the southbound lanes in the 13600 block of the highway (Gulf Freeway). It was first reported at around 10:15 a.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates the victim was a passenger in a red Cadillac CT6 heading southbound. At one point, the Cadillac was rear-ended by a driver in a red Honda Civic who had failed to control his speed. The impact of the initial crash sent the Cadillac into the back of a maroon Dodge Dart.
First responders rushed the 95-year-old woman to HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake with unspecified injuries. On Tuesday, May 30, she was pronounced deceased.
Neither the male driver of the Cadillac or the female driver of the Dodge were reported hurt.
It was unclear whether the driver of the Honda, a 37-year-old man, was injured, but authorities said he stayed at the scene after the crash. After questioning, officers determined he was not impaired and released him from the scene.
An investigation remains ongoing. No charges have been filed as of this writing.
