Man dies after multi-vehicle crash on FM 1960 in NW Houston
HOUSTON, TX — A man died late Friday, July 7, after a multi-vehicle accident on FM 1960 in northwest Houston that left at least three other people injured, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The events unfolded in the 2900 block of FM 1960 at around 11:29 p.m.
Authorities said the unidentified man was driving a Buick Verano in lane 1 on the eastbound side of the road when he failed to control his speed. At one point, the Buick hit the left-rear of a 2003 Lexus GS300, causing the second vehicle to veer off the right side of the roadway and roll multiple times. After failing to maintain a single lane, the causing driver then crossed into the westbound lanes where it hit a 2009 Toyota Venza head-on. The impact of the second crash caused the Buick to catch fire and become engulfed in flames.
Seconds after the wreck, a driver in a westbound 2013 Toyota Tundra struck the right side of the Toyota Venza despite attempting an evasive maneuver.
EMS personnel arrived to find the Buick driver, who had not been wearing a seat belt, without signs of life. Despite several life-saving measures, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver and front-seat passenger of the Lexus were also both administered life-saving measures at the scene. Both patients were flown to Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center. No information on their conditions has been disclosed.
First responders also had the driver of the Toyota rushed by ground ambulance to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
An investigation by the HCSO’s Vehicular Crimes Division was underway.
