Passenger dies after multi-vehicle wreck on US-290 in NW Houston
HOUSTON, TX — A 35-year-old man has died following a multi-vehicle crash last Sunday, August 27, on U.S. Highway 290 that left multiple others injured, according to the Houston Police Department.
The accident occurred in the 12400 block of the US-290 (Northwest Freeway) service road, in the Langwood area. It was first reported at about 9:15 a.m.
An investigation by the HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division indicates the victim was a passenger in a purple Infiniti G35 being driven southbound by a 19-year-old man. A silver Toyota Tacoma was heading southbound in the 4900 block of Bingle Road when it stopped at a red light at the intersection before the freeway. Moments after the Toyota proceeded into the intersection, it was hit by the Infiniti.
Following the initial crash, both vehicles were sent into a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and a blue Nissan Versa that was waiting at the light. The Infiniti overturned, collided with a curb, and then hit multiple unoccupied vehicles, including a Chevrolet Camaro, a Honda Accord, and a Chevrolet Corvette.
The passenger of the Infinity suffered critical injuries and was rushed to an area hospital, while the Infinity driver was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
First responders transported the drivers of the other vehicles, a 61-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman, to a local hospital with unspecified injuries.
On August 31, four days later, the passenger of the Infiniti was pronounced deceased.
An investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not reported any charges at this time.
