DPS officers hurt in crashes during pursuit, response near Katy
HARRIS COUNTY, TX — Two Texas Department of Public Safety troopers were injured in a pair of crashes during a pursuit Tuesday night near Katy, reports ABC13.
DPS officials said a trooper was on his way to assist in a pursuit when his vehicle struck the side of an 18-wheeler on Interstate 10 near Merchants Way.
Preliminary details indicate Harris County sheriff’s deputies and DPS troopers were in pursuit of a female driver who had fled a traffic stop and, at one point, had run over a trooper’s foot while trying to flee.
The trooper whose vehicle hit the big rig had to be extricated from the wreckage but was observed walking and communicating before he was taken to a hospital in stable condition, along with the other trooper.
Officials say the fleeing driver was later stopped using the PIT maneuver and arrested. It was unclear whether she or her juvenile passengers were injured.
An investigation remains in progress.
