2 dead following wrong-way crash on I-10 in east Houston
HOUSTON, TX — A female passenger and a wrong-way driver were killed early Sunday as a result of a head-on crash in east Houston that left another person seriously hurt, reports ABC13.
Authorities say the wreck occurred on Interstate 10 (East Freeway) near Freeport Street, just after 12:00 a.m. Dispatchers received multiple calls about a reckless vehicle traveling against traffic some time before.
Harris County Sheriff’s deputies are working to determine whether the driver of a wrong-way vehicle was intoxicated when their vehicle collided with another car.
The wrong-way driver, who has not been identified, and a passenger in the victim vehicle, 23-year-old Michelle Baez, were both pronounced deceased at the scene.
First responders rushed the driver of the victim vehicle, who was left in serious condition, to a local hospital where the patient had to undergo surgery.
An investigation remains in progress.
