UPDATE: Tractor-trailer vs car crash on Katy Fwy claims life of 25-year-old woman
HOUSTON, TX — A 25-year-old woman who was critically injured due to a crash with a semi-truck late last Tuesday in west Houston has died, according to ABC13.
Houston Police responded to the scene on the westbound side of the Katy Freeway (Interstate 10) near State Highway 6. Dispatchers were first alerted shortly after 11:00 p.m.
Preliminary details indicate the woman was operating a Hyundai when she made an improper lane change. The abrupt move cut off an 18-wheeler, which then crashed into the Hyundai, and the force of the wreck caused both vehicles to crash and come to rest in the HOV lane.
The driver of the Hyundai, whose identity has not been made public, was transported to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center with critical injuries. On Friday, three days later, doctors pronounced her deceased, confirmed officials.
No injuries to the semi-truck driver, a 61-year-old man, or anyone else were reported following the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate, but impairment on the part of the truck driver has been ruled out as a factor in the accident.
