Alleged impaired driver collides with multiple pedestrians on Eastex Fwy
HUMBLE, TX – According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, a driver killed a man after colliding with multiple pedestrians on the 13900 block of Eastex Fwy on Monday.
Johnny Luna was driving a beige 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 south on the Eastex Fwy around 10:23 p.m. when he collided with a parked red 2013 Ford Taurus that was parked on the Fwy.
The Ford Taurus then hit three pedestrians who were standing in front of it: Jarrod Avery, Autrell Baltrip, and Denard Watson.
Rescue crews transported Baltrip and Watson to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. They took Avery to a local hospital, where he died on Wednesday at 12:27 a.m.
First responders also transported Luna to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities believe Luna displayed signs of impairment and obtained a blood sample. The toxicology report is pending.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division is investigating the incident.
