Driver killed after going airborne, crashing into bayou in Katy

KATY, TX –  According to Click 2 Houston, a driver died after they went airborne off the Katy Freeway near South Mason Road and landed in the bayou Sunday night.

The victim was driving an older model truck when he hit a guardrail, went airborne, and crashed into the bayou around 10 p.m.

Emergency crews extricated the driver, a young man, from the truck. First responders transported him to an area hospital, where he died.

It is unclear if impairment or speed played a role in the collision.

Officials have not released the victim’s name.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
