Driver dies after speeding Tesla rolls over, hits tree in Spring
SPRING, TX – A man in his 20s died after a Tesla rollover crash early Sunday morning on Lexington Road in Spring, reports Click2Houston.
Harris County deputies responded to the scene in the 26000 block of Lexington Road after receiving a crash report at about 3:40 a.m. Deputies arrived and located a red Tesla off the street in a ditch.
Investigators say the Tesla had been speeding before the driver missed a curve. The vehicle then went off the pavement, rolled several times through the ditch, and crashed into a tree.
Emergency crews struggled to open the Tesla’s electric doors after the crash. Reports indicate they were forced to use the Jaws of Life to remove the driver from the car.
Paramedics took the driver to HCA Houston Northwest for treatment. Medical staff pronounced him dead of his injuries at around 4:45 a.m.
Officials have not yet determined whether the Tesla’s automated driving feature was active.
