HCSO ID’s victim in fatal crash that damaged Atasocita cake store
ATASCOCITA, TX – The Harris County Sheriff s Office has released the name of the person who died after a vehicle crashed into a cake store on Tuesday.
This comes as an update in connection with our previous reporting. HCSO told ABC13 that it was Zion Branch who died from her injuries.
The Back Story
The incident unfolded after 3 p.m. at 19250 West Lake Houston Parkway. A man in his 70s accidentally pressed on the accelerator instead of the brakes while trying to park in front of the Nothing Bundt Cakes store. Subsequently, the man crashed his pickup truck into the store and struck Branch and a customer inside.
Branch died from her injuries at the scene, while EMS crews took the customer to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. That customer is in stable condition, officials confirmed.
The driver and his passenger, his wife, were both unharmed.
The driver showed no signs of impairment. Harris County District Attorney’s Office will be evaluating the case and determining whether criminal charges are warranted.
