HOUSTON, TX – Police arrested a driver on suspicion of driving while intoxicated for their role in a deadly pedestrian crash on Friday.

Police told Click2Houston that the collision happened before 10 p.m. in the area of Cullen Boulevard and Bellfort Avenue. Preliminary details show a man was walking outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle driven by the alleged impaired driver.

EMS rushed the pedestrian to Ben Taub Hospital, where he later died.

Police are working to determine whether the suspected DWI driver was speeding or whether other factors were behind the serious crash.

The motorist’s charges could be upgraded to intoxication manslaughter depending on how the investigation continues.
