UPDATE: Boy, 16, dies after I-45 crash in Spring 

SPRING, TX – A 16-year-old boy who was critically injured in a crash on Interstate 45 has since died, according to ABC 13.

This comes as an update in connection with our previous reporting. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the teenager passed away from his injuries after the deadly collision on Friday.

The collision happened on I-5 near Louetta Road. Two 16-year-old boys, Spring High School students, came from the Home Depot store and decided to run across the interstate.

Both boys successfully ran across the interstate. However, when it came time to cross an HOV lane, one of the boys stopped after seeing an oncoming pickup truck, while the other did not see the vehicle and ran.

The boy who did not see the pickup truck was struck by it and suffered critical injuries. Subsequently, that boy later died from his injuries at HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest.

The pickup truck driver told deputies he reduced his speed in order to try to avoid hitting the boys, but unfortunately could not avoid a crash.
