Two workers hit, killed by possibly speeding driver on I-35 frontage rd

AUSTIN, TX – Two construction workers installing a sign near the I-35 frontage road were killed Friday when they were hit by a driver who may have been speeding, according to KXAN.

The crash happened at 4911 S I-35 service road northbound, near Teri Road at 9:29 a.m., as multiple workers were installing a road sign in a grassy area off the side of the roadway.

Two of the workers were then struck by the driver of a black 2015 Porsche SUV who had gone off the side of the road.

The two workers were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver had to be cut out from the vehicle and was taken to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center to receive treatment for injuries that were considered potentially serious, but not life-threatening.

Austin Police continue to investigate the crash, which they believe was at least partially caused by the driver’s speeding. They may also attempt to get a warrant for a blood draw.
